ComPassion Project: $150K Raised, Lives Changed
This Giving Tuesday, help us keep the momentum going.
Just over a year ago I wrote this letter to you.
When I write the word you I mean Wild Rock customers, I mean Wild Rock staff, I mean those in our community that work towards improving Peterborough for everyone, I mean those who wish to help but have not yet figured out how. And I write to myself as a reminder of my personal commitments to community and quality of life. We all need reminders and looking back at this letter is mine.
Since I wrote that first letter committing both Wild Rock and myself to consciously striving towards making our home town the home town that we all wish for and deserve, we have had so much positive feedback from you, our customers. We have had donations, random hugs, rounds of applause, many, many letters and comments of support. I have been touched that on many occasions (the number of these occasions is large, terrifying, touching and telling) customers have quietly approached me with stories of addiction and homelessness within their own families. These stories are very, very close to home and speak to how fragile our lives can be. We know, I know, that access to support in times of crisis are vital and that access to wilderness and recreation helps to keep those times of crisis at bay.
And so, together, we are doing what we can in the ways we know how. We have raised almost $150,000 to date. We have told stories and listened to stories. We have done our best to support and spread the word for our partner organizations who, in the last year have:
The YES Shelter has again lowered the rates of youth homelessness in Peterborough when all other rates of homelessness are on the rise.
Kawartha Land Trust has acquired and preserved a record amount of land, much of which will have future trail development.
One City Peterborough has increased their ability to support the most vulnerable people in our community, adding housing, outreach and food services to their capacity.
Peterborough Bicycle Advisory Committee has kept their “Safe Streets For All” message in front of council.
The Peterborough Trailbuilders have, you guessed it, built and maintained more trails.
And Fourcast have continued to relentlessly face down all types of addiction spanning everything from street drugs to gaming, alcohol and gambling.
Although we can only say that we played a very small part in the incredible work that these organizations have done and continue to do in our community we are proud of the start that we have made. We know that we can do great things together and we are really hoping that you join us along the way.
